Robert KubicaRobert Kubica has injured his leg in a fall near his home, with sources close to the Polish driver suggesting that he has reopened a fracture that he sustained in his rally accident last year.
It is understood that Kubica fell over on ice in Pietrasanta, where he lives, and subsequently complained of pain in the right leg which was broken in his crash. He was driven to the local hospital for checks.
Although there has been no official statement, it is understood that it has been found that Kubica has reopened the fracture in his right tibia.
Kubica's latest injury setback comes on the same day that Ferrari played down talk that it was planning to test the Polish driver later this year once he was fully recovered.
Sources suggested that the injury is likely to delay his recovery by at least three weeks.
"That was not on our plan," said Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali at the annual Wrooom media event.
"For sure Robert Kubica is a great driver that had a very severe injuries and at the moment he is still working very hard to try to go back to his normal living.
"So before any kind of thinking or discussion of whatever could be, we need to wait and see. For sure that kind of injury is taking a long time to recover so I can say we will wait and see if he is going to recover, but at the moment there is nothing in place."
I want that Robert Kubica returns to the F1 series, but I think that he is doing just the same kind of career as a helicopter accident at the time the injured Alessandro Nannini. So I think that Kubica will drive the future GT, Prototype or Touringcar series.
Wow I ve just seen this news, this is terrible. Poor Robert, he is such a gifted driver how can anyone get so many bad accidents on top of one another. Just sad.
What bothers me in this , is the fact his already "healed" leg got hurt again. And thats just falling on ice. There is no way he could be in F1 car in a short future. His bones are still so fragile he could do a lot of harm to himself by getting too early to the cockpit .
Zitat Kubica targetting June comeback in simulator and race car January 29, 2012
Stories coming from Italy suggest that injured F1 driver Robert Kubica aims to get into an F1 simulator and then back into a car and has set his sights on doing it from June onwards.
The Pole, who broke bones down his right side and severed nerves in his right arm in a rally accident a year ago, is still in a light cast at present after breaking his right leg again earlier this month. But he’s counting down the days to getting back into training.
According to our colleague Pino Allievi, who is in close contact with Kubica, he had started intense training on a bicycle in December and will get back on it soon. He is driving a road car again and has a good range of movement is his right arm, but still has some problems with rotation movements between the elbow and wrist.
According to Allievi, Kubica’s attitude is that either he’s able to come back at 100% of his previous level or he won’t bother. And it will only be if and when he drives a simulator and then a racing car that he will know.
The intense physiotherapy he is undertaking at the moment and the training programme he had started on before the recent leg break show the ferocity of his determination to come back.

ZitatKubica undergoes surgery to damaged elbow By Pablo Elizalde Wednesday, June 6th 2012, 09:21 GMT
Robert KubicaRobert Kubica has undergone surgery in order to improve the mobility of his arm following his accident last year.
The Pole, who continues recovering from the horrific crash he was involved in during a rally at the start of last year, had surgery at the Pederzoli hospital at the end of last month, when parts of his elbow were replaced with two prosthesis.
According to the doctor in charge of the operation, that will allow Kubica to fully handle the steering wheel of a car.
The doctor also said that the Polish driver had been carrying out tests in a simulator prior to the operation.
"This way the driver will be able to fully handle the steering wheel, while before he was unable to rotate the palm down, so he was forced to release the steering wheel in order to turn left," head surgeon Ruggero Testoni was quoted as saying by Italian media.
"The surgery was preceded by a series of tests in a car simulator. It will take at least one month in order to stabilize."
