quoteFERRARI SET FOR NEW ENGINE SPECIFICATION IN BARCELONA Published on 21 Apr 2015 14:46
Ferrari is preparing to unleash more horse power in Spain. Reports are doing the rounds that the Maranello team will debut an upgrade for its turbo V6 'power unit' in June for the race in Canada. But Germany's Bild newspaper said a new specification will in fact make its bow in Barcelona in just under three weeks' time.
The report said it could boost Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen's 2015 car to the tune of 20-30 horse power, giving the SF15-T "almost as much power as Mercedes". Team boss Maurizio Arrivabene told Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I want to thank all the people in Maranello who have been part of this work."
"It has been not only about developing the engine, but every single part of the car, realising in three months what normally would have taken six. I do not know if we will catch Mercedes, but I definitely like the idea of being able to put pressure on them," he added. (GMM)

Maranello, 30 April –Budapest, a historic city crammed with beautiful buildings is, for a third year, hosting the Nagy Futam event which sees all sorts of race cars parade along its streets. They range from Formula 1 to NASCAR, while the Ferrari Challenge series is also represented by the splendid 458 Challenge EVO.
There will also be an air display so the spectators will be able to turn their gaze skywards as well as down the wide boulevards of the Hungarian capital. Among those supporting the event is Scuderia Ferrari sponsor, Kaspersky Lab and the team will be running Kimi Raikkonen at the wheel of an F10, the car that took the Maranello marque to second place in the 2010 World Championship.
The Finn will show off the F10 and its glorious 2.4 litre “056” V8 engine, in an environment where the crowd can get much closer to the cars than they can at an actual Grand Prix. Indeed, the Scuderia is happy to take part in show runs like this, which bring motorsport to the heart of major cities and closer to the public. In fact, this won’t be Ferrari’s only appearance in Budapest this year.
This show on 1st May is a sort of taster for fans and enthusiasts, prior to the Ferrari Racing Days event, which takes place at the Hungaroring circuit from 26 to 28 June, a month prior to the Formula 1 Grand Prix. The weekend provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of the Maranello marque, featuring the third round of the European Ferrari Challenge, split between the Trofeo Pirelli and the Coppa Shell races. Also, in collaboration with Shell, Sebastian Vettel will be on hand to drive a Formula 1 car.
good interview with Maurizio Arrivabene today in Bild
my translation:
quoteSince five months Maurizio Arrivabene (58) is the new boss at Ferrari. The tall Italian, previously Vice-President at Tobacco Group Philip Morris is boss of Sebastian Vettel (27) and Kimi Raikkonen (35). And a real gentleman. Before the interview begins he brings the reporter an espresso and a glass of water.
BILD am Sonntag: You are in the paddock the "rock star" among the team principals. You are tattooed, wearing colorful sneakers and often criticize relentlessly. MAURIZIO Arrivabene: Rockstar, popstar. That sounds pretty good, right? I told a few months ago to my people, that we must be more open as Ferrari team. We need to talk straight, make contact, mainly to younger people. They are the future of Formula 1. We are isolating us if we close the doors. So we sit here and talk!
Your two predecessors Stefano Domenicali and Marco Mattiacci were fired. How long have you been thinking, if you want to do that? 20 minutes. Then there was the handshake with Sergio Marchionne and thus my promise. This is as good as a signature for me.
Do you remember the situation when Marchionne asked you? That was funny. I sat in the car, drove straight from my hometown Brescia in Italy back home to Switzerland. The phone rang but I did not know the number. So I didn't answer. Behind unknown numbers often hide just people who want to have tickets for a race or a pass for the paddock. When I walked in the front door, the phone rang again. And I thought that must be somebody with a serious concern.
It was ...? Sergio Marchionne! He only asked: "Would you be available, Maurizio?" And I said, "Of course," And the following Sunday, after a game of Juventus, we have met and agreed with a handshake. The drama followed afterwards. I didn't ask my wife Steffi beforehand. She hung up on the phone and was pissed.
Is the job as Ferrari team boss fun? Early days it was really hard. I had not much time to grow into this position.
But the success of this season will compensate. Especially Sebastian Vettel's victory in Malaysia. I am so incredibly proud of my two boys. With Kimi, we already have a long history. And Seb I met for the first time in Maranello in December. He beamed like a little kid in a toy store at Christmas. He told me that he was Ferrari fan since a child. And then he told me about Michael Schumacher, and I in turn told him my story and experiences with Michael. And I knew immediately that I had a world champion in front of me. Not only a world champion in the car, but also a champion of the heart. You can even have as many titles that does not mean that you're a good person.
Do you see parallels between Schumi and Vettel? Not really. Not in terms of the character, as they are very different. I see no more than cultural similarities. German properties, they both have in common.
Like what? The commitment to the job. The accuracy, to go to the smallest detail on issues and to detect a possible fault. Sebastian for example never gives up until he has found a solution. It may be midnight and he is still tinkering around. I as an Italian would rather eat pasta inbetween, think about everything. Sebastian as a typical German eats nothing until he has finished the work. But he succeeds with it, that's clear.
He has got Ferrari's first win in Malaysia after almost two years. You even cried at the awards ceremony! If I get emotional, then they are enormous feelings. And when it comes over me again, then I have to actually hide quickly or I cry uncontrollable.
Can you tell what the three large tattoos mean on your forearm? These are the zodiac signs of my daughter, my wife Steffi and me. My daughter speaks perfect German by the way! She studied in Frankfurt two years. Was in Sweden to a German school. I remember when we were many years ago at a race in Imola. She talked to Michael and Corinna Schumacher in German. Both were enthusiastic because she had no accent. Meanwhile, she criticizes me that I have a German driver, but speak no German. And my English she also finds too bad. But for negotiations, it was still good enough.
Good keyword. Does Ferrari have a plan B if Kimi Raikkonen retires end of the season? He won't, I'm sure. If he continues to drive so well, we will extend for another year. But raw performance is only one thing. I also like how they work together, he and Seb. The two sometimes even travel together. This is also a component that influences a decision.
What are your rules as Ferrari boss? First: the team is always above the driver. Both are employees at Ferrari, personal interests must stand back. Secondly teammates do not race against each other, but for the team. If at some point the focus is more on one of the two because of the points, then the teammate must help. Before that they can fight. But a crash between the two would not be acceptable.
Is it true that you also made Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton a million-offer? Why do I need Lewis Hamilton when I have a heavyweight like Vettel? We already have two world champions. I would rather look for a young, talented driver to team up with Sebastian.
Someone like Williams driver Valtteri Bottas? He is said to have already signed a pre-contract with Ferrari ... Pre-season I decided: I will never lie to you. But for this question it is too early to give you a concrete answer.
Italian magazine Autosprint wrote that Kimi was at Fiorano circuit last friday, for a "filming day", but he also had a brief opportunity to test the upgrades he didn't use during Spain GP. They also wrote that Kimi has often been at Maranello in last months...
