if they would want Buemi to replace Mark (and we don't know if he will quit this year) then it would make no sense to replace him at Toro Rosso...
anyway in an interview in yesterdays paper Marko said that they are searching for one 3rd driver for both teams. - "One of the very young drivers?" - "Not necessarily. Maybe we will get one somewhere else." - "Why not Buemi or Alguersuari?" - "They are a bit miffed." " title="dunno" />
Hm...rather not get ahead of myself, sounds like a possible theory, but then why is he the reserve for both teams?
I have learned that Ricciardo was the reserve for both teams in 2010 and 2011, changed to Vergne later on in 2011. Seems like bit of a downgrade really.
Yeah, I was on the Clip The Apex forum, and Galahad (great member who does all he statistics and knows a lot) put up a graph and analysis of the two this season. It showed that Buemi was better in qualifying and race performance compared to Alguersuari, but the points didn't do him any justice with 4 retirements late on the season while in the points being no fault of his own. While most of Alguersuari's points came from lucky number 18 where fresh tyres where crucial in the midfield.
But it's funny how everyone thinks Alguersuari is better of the two when Alguersuari only bet Buemi once of of 2 and a half years with a lot of luck while Buemi had the opposite.
I remember both of their performances in Korea this year. Both started 13th/14th and 15th, Buemi got tagged by a Sauber at the start from behind, he lost 6-7 places while Alguersuari made up a few. Buemi had to re-pass all those cars while losing time to those he was racing. He pitted a lap before the safety car and got disadvanataged, while Alguersuari got a free pitstop. In the end Alguersuari finishes 7th and Buemi 9th only 10s behind, with Alguersuari getting a lot of praise, Buemi moose boy got nothing, actually only Coulthard acknowledged his drive just after the commentray, but that was it.
Zitat von miezicatif they would want Buemi to replace Mark (and we don't know if he will quit this year) then it would make no sense to replace him at Toro Rosso...

I agree with this.
I'm still baffled by the decision Toro Rosso made to remove both drivers. We essentially have two F1 rookies in the same team. No benchmark for pace. And a world of inexperience for car development. Is this Toro Rosso's way of putting their foot in their mouth after a huge mistake? I know they had a lot of time to contemplate their decision. But maybe they didn't realize the mistake they made under after the decision was actually made?
In terms of replacing Webber.. That is where I agree with Miezicat. It makes more sense for someone who is racing throughout 2012 to replace Webber in 2013. I think Buemi's only chance of getting Webber's seat (if the driver comes from within the 'RB academy') is if both Vergne and Ricciardo fail to impress. But again, what is the proper benchmark? We have two unknowns..
And I do think Alguersuari is a good driver, who like Buemi grew a lot in 3 seasons, the results showed with these two drivers the team grew aswell. I like Toro Rosso, but it's a shame Red Bull have influence on who's their drivers are. The team will always stay bottom half of the midfield as Red Bull don't like getting beat by them.
I think if this little team kept their last two drivers they would have moved up the field as was the case in the past seasons and be like Force India who have at least kept on one driver ever since they formed.

That's worrying indeed.
I think he will just be a test/reserve driver with them for the rest of his career.

+1 I haven't followed them closely that I could say who is the better one, they both had some good races and improved like you said but they didn't impress that much that I would say they are the logical replacement for Webber. but they both still need time and can still improve I think, especially Jaime who is just 21!
and yes, that they have no benchmark at Toro Rosso now might be a problem. that's why I was surprised that they replaced both drivers. one, okay, that was expected but both...
it could be that Red Bull offered Buemi to be 3rd driver but he doesn't want it or is still thinking about it.. there are examples of drivers getting back into F1 from being just test driver but then chances aren't that good.. don't know what other options he has..
Hmmz guess that this is better than nothing (or racing at another series)! Maybe Torro Rosso needs him as a benchmark! If he is lucky and one of the new drivers fails he could get in again " title="dunno" />
But usually the Red Bull/Toro Rosso reserve is someone that's young and will be the next in line for the Toro Rosso seat.
Either they don't have any drivers that they think should get the reserve (which I doubt since they have 4 similar aged drivers in the past 2 years) or all their "F1 worthy" drivers all came at one time or they actually think Buemi's worth hanging on to.
It's strange...what happens if Buemi gets promoted, and one of the two Toro Rosso drivers wins the battle after 2 years? Will Buemi get replaced? Would both Toro Rosso divers get dropped and one becomes the reserve like this season anticipating Vettel to move to another team?
Helmut Marko gives another confidence booster to his young drivers!
What an arse.
The guy is a PR nightmare, first causes trouble at Turkey 2010 then Silverstone 2010, and has never seemed to have stopped.
He should keep his trap shut.
I feel sorry for Vettel, when you see Marko at races you see him smother over Vettel like a over-protective mother. He must want to slap the guy, but then remembers who got him there.
Oh and Miezi, thanks for the interview! " title="hug" /> " title="moose" />

I thought the exact same thing. I wanted to puke when I read that Alg and Buemi were "not race winners." From memory, TR had both drivers in Q3 only once this season. Not exactly a race winning car. So how they can have a fair opportunity to prove they are "race winners" just blows my mind. Maybe he needs to pass the " title="pipe" /> along so we can enjoy what he's smoking! " title="rasta" />
I couldn't agree more, Ragey. It doesn't make much sense to most fans of the sport. But he has the ultimate control and there's not much we can do otherwise. Without a point of reference, I don't really know how we can judge Vergne and Ricciardo's performances next season when compared to Alg and Buemi..
