I'm sitting in the San Antonio airport waiting to fly back home..
What a weekend! Of course it would have been nice if Kimi was there. But what can you do? It's best that he gets in the best shape possible for 2014! The championship is lost and next year is more important. Yes, it would be wonderful to see Kimi performing in a Lotus car that looks 2nd best on the grid. But next year is the priority. I also hope Alonso gets healthy as well!
Back to Austin.. What a city! The traffic is quite heavy for the weekend.. But that's trivial! The circuit is amazing to see in person. There is quite a bit of elevation change, especially in Sector 1 and 2. The cars really need proper set up changes to run near the limit. Watching the cars braking heavily into T11 is more than evidence! For the race: we watched the cars come through the esses standing at T6. The Lotus looked quite impressive, and obviously the Red Bull did as well. There was very little passing which I'm sure makes it hard for the casual fan. In addition: it was 85F on race day without a cloud in the sky!
I'll share more thoughts and photos later. Hope everyone enjoyed the race!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and pics with us Sonny, please elaborate more.
I actually missed the race because since it was in my time zone, I was busy. Ironic right?
So I only watched the last laps and felt stange that there were not much suffling between places from the start of the race, at least at the top. And also wondered what went wrong with Heikki
And it turns out I'll be busy for Brazil quali and race too (I prefer European races because I get up at 6am, watch the race in peace and then begin my day)
Heikki: made an early first pit stop and suffered a 20point loss in downforce from the front wing (team was unsure why right after the race, maybe rubber in the wing?). So the pit wall made the decision to pit him again for a new wing and option tyre because his pace would have suffered with the front downforce he lost.
