Kimi Räikkönen won’t be drive the remaining races in USA and Brazil. Steve Robertson has confirmed to Turun Sanomat that Räikkönen will undergo back surgery next Thursday in Austria. His rehabilitation will last until Christmas. Räikkönen’s back has been sore for a longer time. According to information Sport Content has Kimi considered back surgery already in October when the pain hit really hard in Singapore and he was able to race only because of getting a shot of cortisone.
Despite his back pains, Räikkönen is believed to be able to participate in USA and Brazil. But Lotus hasn’t paid him even one euro this year. A week ago in Abu Dhabi, Mansoor Ijaz from Quantum Motorsport apologized to Räikkönen and promised to pay him his unpaid salaries. But the money hasn’t shown up.
Last Thursday, Räikkönen visited Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello to take measures for his seat. At the same time, Räikkönen broke his contract, but he has every right to do so because Lotus hasn’t fulfilled their obligations with regards his salary. Lotus has assured in public that everything is alright. They even published Räikkönen’s comments in their race preview a few days ago. They informed that Räikkönen would drive in USA and Brazil with a shorter wheelbase which suits his driving style better. They informed that Räikkönen would do his best so that Lotus would end up 2nd in WCC. In reality, Räikkönen was going to skip Abu Dhabi already. Räikkönen was outraged at Alan Permane’s vulgar language on the radio in India GP when he had to let Romain Grosjean past. In the end, Kimi decided to travel to Abu Dhabi. The race ended in a crash in the first corner and his two-year job at Lotus also ended there.
Effectively, Räikkönen slapped Lotus properly by informing them that he will be on sick leave. He isn’t interested in helping the team that hasn’t paid him one dime and still saw it right to publicly bash him on the radio. Lotus’ situation is embarrassing. The team publicly bashed Räikkönen earlier this autumn when he told in public that he hadn’t got his salaries. And Lotus even claimed at the end of September (in Singapore) that they had already paid Räikkönen. But Räikkönen revealed something completely different at the beginning of November in Abu Dhabi. Lotus might go bankrupt when the season ends. Surely some investor would then buy the remnants of this successful team? Well, that doesn’t interest Räikkönen anymore. He starts working for Ferrari in January. http://www.sportti.com/uutinen.asp?CAT=1-1&ID=252443

When I heard the impact was 21G when Kimi broke the front wing/floor, I got a bit worried... I think most likely it worsen the back problem... I'm a bit mad at FIA for DQ him at Abu Dhabi... Anyway, hope Kimi will have a successful surgery and come back next year in his best condition.
I'm just going to Austin for a nice break from this horrible weather here... :D :D

Kimi Raikkonen will miss the US and Brazilian GPs due to surgery on the back problem that reappeared over the Singapore GP weekend.
Finnish paper Turun Sanomat revealed today that the Lotus driver has opted not to compromise preparations for his return to Ferrari in 2014.
“Kimi will travel to Salzburg on Thursday and the operation will be carried out Thursday or possibly Friday,” his manager Steve Robertson told this writer. “The doctor treating Kimi has already worked on Kimi’s back issue in the past. Having had cortisone injections in the back already this year and due to the discomfort of being in continuous pain it was felt there is no alternative to delay the operation.”
Inevitably there will be speculation as to how his decision reflects his pay dispute with Lotus and the deterioration in his relationship with the team, especially since the Indian GP controversy. He currently lies third in the World Championship, just eight points ahead of Lewis Hamilton. If he drops out of the top three he won’t have to attend the FIA prizegiving ceremony in Paris in December.
“Kimi had two successful years returning to F1 with Lotus,” said Robertson. “And it would have been nice to secure another top three position in the drivers world championship and to have help the team fight in the constructors championship.”
It remains to be seen who Lotus opts to hire for the final races.
what an end of the season hope all goes well with the surgery

Good for him, he's wasted enough time on that shower of clowns, it all started out so well but it takes honesty and integrity to form a lasting partnership, Lopez is apparently devoid of both of those qualities.
The fact that the news was broken via Kulta and not via a Lotus press release speaks volumes.
Hope the surgery goes well and we get off to a great start in 2014 :)

Saari wrote that Lotus PR got the news from him! but maybe at least Boullier knew it a bit earlier from Kimi.
this must have been planned since a few days, I think that's why Kimi went to Maranello already on Thursday, cause after surgery he has to rest for a few weeks
edit: yes, a bit earlier
quoteAndrew Benson @andrewbensonf1 Just spoken briefly to Lotus team boss Eric Boullier. He confirmed Kimi Raikkonen phoned last night to say missing last 2 GPs with bad back

Totally agree with you Clarky! Welcome to the forum!
Great decision by Kimi. Enough is enough! Get well soon Kimi!
Really sad news. With the prehistory (Lotus-Kimi) during the last weeks for me there is a little bit of bad taste in the issue. Maybe without the money issue he would have tried to race if it is possible in any way. So let´s hope for a successfull surgery and a good recovery so that everything will be fine and ready for 2014! Any news about Alonso and his back?
