Zitat von KurskiMichael Schumacher next year Lotus F1 Team second driver?
ZitatOne possibility would be to drive in 2013 alongside Kimi Raikkonen at Lotus. Even in Singapore Lauda sounded Lotus team owner Gerard Lopez out on it. Lopez thought it was a joke, until Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone marketer intervened.
The Briton, who has played a mediating role between Hamilton and Mercedes doesn't want Schumacher to retire. A team Raikkonen and Schumacher, Ecclestone shows, would be quite to his liking. The 81-year-old would even take part to Schumacher's wishes (seven million euro salary, hardly PR appearances). But at first there remains doubts if Schumacher would still take the trouble of Kimi Raikkonen. The Finn is not known as easy-care team-mate.
now they get desperate " title="lol" /> thanks kurski " title="ha" />
Zitat von SpinsterAlthough they highly respect each other and have a very good band i wouldnt mind and it could be good for lotus's financial situation too
Yep they respect each other. even at ferrari it almost happened ( twice ). Schumi should have made up his mind long back, that way lewis would not have been offered the seat. Now,its a mess. I think sauber is the team he is going to be in if at all he is in F1 ( or is anybody buying out mark's contract ).
having a soft spot for the old uncle i hope he stays in f1....and to be honest, i really hope he gets a podium or a win in the season.. " title="red" />
I really think Schumi needs to go. I enjoy seeing him around the F1 paddock. But it is crippling the chances for younger drivers to have a seat in F1.
I really worry about the long term viability of 'great' drivers. We could be in a cycle of very, very good drivers at the moment. And the overwhelming introduction of 'pay' drivers to the F1 grid is coinciding with a world economic crisis and several elite drivers on the F1 grid. If the global recession continues: could we be in for a 'down era' of great drivers if we loose our current crop of great drivers? If 'pay drivers' keep getting the nod over quality drivers (which can't afford to pay), we could be headed down a risky path. The only 'driver academy' that seems to be producing any talent at the moment is Ferrari. Red Bull doesn't appear to have produced anyone of significance other than Vettel. McLaren since Hamilton. Mercedes... Well, we will see just how good Rosberg is next year. We will also see if Perez is for real next year.
As much as I like to see Schumi around the paddock.. We really need some younger drivers to have the opportunity to flourish. I have a hard time believing Maldonado and Grosjean are the future faces of F1. " title="eek" />
Zitat von miezicat I already thought I'm the only one not wanting Kimi in McLaren again I'm happy with him at Lotus
still I'm surprised by Hamilton's move. I wonder what lead to that.. the money, the possibilty to have all kind of personal sponsors? (to make him big in America ) or he needed a change, there were really problems inside the team? or the engine rules? would be funny if now the rules wouldn't be changed btw why do they actually change the engine rules, what's the reason behind? as it's very likely that after such a change the engine will be decisive if a car is quick or not! and there might be a lot of reliability issues at the beginning.. and if the sound is really crap.. who wants all that?
apparantly McLaren knew only 2 days before that Ham will leave! so that was a quick decision to get Perez. I think it's a good one. he is talented but of course still has to learn. but who else could they have taken? (apart from Kimi ) I don't think di Resta is anything special.
Lotus isn't a bad team. Kimi is happy there and if he is faster than Romain and has more points the team will be behind him like we see now. Boullier can't do anything else. latest interviews he speaks very nice of Kimi so I don't have much worries that it will change next year. and they have a good car now so why not next year again? sure sadly they are falling behind now but it's because their latest updates didn't work and I still have hope that the next will and then it will look better.
it could get interesting what happens after next year. the rumour that Seb will go to Ferrari in 2014 is getting bigger and it's possible, Ferrari is used to make contracts years ahaid, happened with Kimi and Alonso as we know. would also explain why Ferrari doesn't get rid of Massa as they just need a driver for one year. But Seb and Alonso in one team? .. I thought he would go there after Alonso.. anyway if it happens and we assume that Webber would retire there would be two free seats at RB. and they would need an experienced driver together with one of their young ones..
Awesome post there, Miezi. That was fun to read! " title="ty" />
Let's hope Lotus can make another quick car again next year. Wish I knew the internal workings of the car building team. It was interesting to hear James Allison say how he had input on the 'front facing exhausts.' I believe he said this at the E20 launch. Seems that Dirk de Beer really is doing a fantastic job there. We've seen that teams can turn it around in one year (i.e. Ferrari and the 'radical' car for this year) and teams can also go backwards (Red Bull - but likely due to loss of EBD). So let's wait and see what happens with Lotus. I am a bit surprised they haven't tried something 'radical' or 'risky' with the exhausts. It seems all of the other 'big' teams have.
I also tend to agree with you about Vettel and Ferrari in 2014. With Fernando being signed until 2016.. Would Vettel really go there? I'd think Vettel would be the quicker pilot of the two in 2014. Fernando is not getting any younger. And Vettel continues to mature. But I just can't see Vettel risking this move with Fernando still there. Red Bull have put together a very formidable team. Horner seems a top team principle. Newey is a top aerodynamacist. Red Bull easily brings in enough money to fund the Formula 1 team. And their recent WCC successes also help fund the F1 project. If it weren't for the ban of EBD's.. Vettel would have been 3x champ on the trot. Ferrari seem to be making this formidable team pairing with Fernando currently. Would Vettel really leave 'his' environment and try to break into the 'halo' that Fernando has cast upon himself within Maranello?
Very interesting take on 2014. That thought never even crossed my mind.
Zitat von f194girlSo now the rumors are true! Congrats for Perez, he deserves the seat at McLaren. Now the big question is: What will Schumi do? I don´t understand why so many people want to see Kimi back at McLaren? Yes he had a good times there but also bad times. His last season there was 2006 and this is now 6 years back. I think he has changed (from a rockie to a made man) and also the team has changed. So why should it be like "in the good old McLaren" days??? For me he seems very lucky at Lotus esp. with his personal freedom they give him.
I already thought I'm the only one not wanting Kimi in McLaren again I'm happy with him at Lotus

Great post!!! " title="five" />
About the Schumi to Lotus runours: I wouln´t mind him at Lotus (next to Kimi of course!!!!!). I think that he has still lots of pace (this year he drives as fast as Rosi). It´s just that he tends to make stupid mistakes! Besides he would be great for PR stuff and would bring some sponsors (and money) to Lotus! But I don´t think that they will get rid of Romain! " title="dunno" />
I´d like to see him at Sauber next year! I guess that Alge does already have a contract at Sauber (or Williams?!?!) for next year and him and Schumi would be a great team (even thought it would mean that Koba would have to leave)!
About Macca next year! I think that for next year they are a little but fucked of they haven´t the fastest car. Button is really good but not as fast as Lewis! But then again if Macca develops the car exactely to his likings then he can be as fast as Lewis was. Perez is good but still young. And I still dunno what to think about his performance. He didn´t really impress me when he was in the Top10 (which didn´t reallly happen that often me thinks?!?! - I think that Koba did reach the Q3 way more often). What I wanted to say that he only did impress me when he was outside of the top10 and therefore had lots of new tyres and could profit from that!
IMO Ham´s decision has been really really really stupid!!! But of course it could be that next year the Mercedes is fast! But at least we finally get to see how fast Rosberg really is.

I also think that Seb is off to Ferrari in 2014. It would mean a new challenge to him!
About Kimi to RB in 2014: I don´t believe in that chances! Kimi is not getting younger! Of course if Seb leaves they would need an experienced driver ... but still! Don´t think that it will happen! But oh well 2014 is far far far away h" title="hih" />
that thing about new engines, i hope they continue with it. F1 should always be at the forefront of technology employing the best brains in the business. (and it will in turn be fruitful for normal roadcars). Let them make efficient and powerful engines, I'd like to drive an environment friendly car but with a lot more zip(power ), at the moment the zip is possible only if you have a big engine, hope that changes. KERS, I believe these days the KERS systems are so advanced, thanks to the competitive edge of the sport.
I'll be frank, the thing that gives me a kick about F1 is the machines, but yes it would be nothing without racing.
Silly season, y is it that lotus didnt announce anything yet?

yes Anith, i love it when they come with a revolutionary thing ( even if for me it all started with the simple air foil-boundary layer problem, remember? h" title="hih" /> ) KERS is amazing for its size, yet a lot of development is expected in that area too..
but BE does not like these engines, and usually he gets what he wants... " title="dunno" />
