But when??? This is the question...and also, for us Kimi fans, most important is the next years car to be closer to Kimi's style, as was the lotus one.
Sky were hinting the timing of the announce would happen around Singapore and Japan.. But there are a few question marks over the swap..to Vettel it could be a good one. some people are saying he wouldnt do it because his "fame" would suffer , meaning he is close to be beaten by Ricciardo. I dont belive in such a crap. Drivers dont think their fame when they swap teams. I dont think Vettel anyway. Maybe its time for him to change enviroment. But to Alonso this swap would be much more questionable..but we have to think what has happened earlier , especially the death of Botin . I think Alonsos position it the team isnt such strong as before, as he had Botin and probably even Montezemolo behind him, even tho some people say, Monte and Alonso were not good friends. Thats not the issue, I think the issue is Alo would need to restructure his backround forces again , as Botin isnt there anymore. Alonso might need the change the climate too, but I dont know if RBR would be the best place. Alonso could do a short deal , eyeing Merc seat to himself, but then there is Bottas knocking on the door with Toto Wolff as his manager.
Brazilian Journalist of high reputation says 100% confirmation of "Alonso to McLaren, with announcement to be made soon. Alonso, Ferrari & McLaren/Honda lawyers reached a mutual agreement and compensation was made to Ferrari. Japanese GP was reason to get things done quickly from Honda's perspective".
I wouldn't be surprised if this was indeed true. I always felt that Fernando would go somewhere else to try to win at least 1 more championship. He's been with Ferrari for 5 years (I think?) now and still hasn't sat in the quickest car. He has made some valiant attempts to steal the championship from Seb. But he is yet to get the "best" car from Ferrari during his tenure.
I'm sure we will hear confirmation within the next few days if indeed that journalist is accurate.
@pitlanetalk - Luca di Montezemolo at the Paris Auto Show today:
quote"One must be able to cope with changes and we are proud to close an important cycle. He (Alonso) gave everything and did extraordinary performances. We all thought and hoped we could achieve better results together."

I do agree.
I think Kimi and Alonso's driving styles are just to different and it difficult for them to find solutions when they have been building the cars on this type of design for 5 years. I will not be sad to see Alonso leave the team. In any event Alonso isn't getting what he wanted, that would just make you frustrated so it is a good move for him personally as well.
